Judy Carpenter Barada, the Cardinals’ director of major league administration, has been named as the 2015 recipient of the Sally O’Leary Distinguished Woman in Baseball Award
Judy Barada has been a member of the St. Louis cardinals organization for over 48 years dating back to march 15, 1967 when she began working in group sales. Barada, a St. Louis native who grew up in theItaliann “hill” neighborhood that also produced baseball icons Yogi Berra and Joe Garagiola, has been a part of four (1967, 1982, 2006, 2011) world championship teams and numerous other seasons that helped her to become known as a friend and confidant to Hall-of-Famers and office staffers alike.
Ju-Ju, as her friends often call her, has for years assisted cardinals g.m.’s for the past five years Judy has also assisted the Cardinals traveling secretary C.J. Cherre, who has responsibility for all aspects of spring training, regular season and post-season team travel, including negotiating airline charter, hotel and bus contracts.
Judy also served as president of the pinch-hitters – a charitable organization consisting of baseball wives and front office women- and helped to organize and direct many of the group’s annual ball-b-que fundraiser dinners which benefitted children’s charities in the St. Louis area. In 2004, Judy was selected by the St. Louis baseball writer’s association of America chapter as the first female recipient of their Harry Mitauer ‘good guy’ award.
