Last year’s Chuck Tanner MLB Manager of the Year and Major League’s NL Manager of the Year, spoke to a full house at the noon luncheon held at the William Penn in downtown Pittsburgh.
The very popular Pirate manager told of his decision to come to Pittsburgh and his desire to make the team “better everyday” – to win back the great tradition of the team and the excitement of the fan base. Having completed his 4th season with the Bucs in ’14 – Hurdle has certainly brought back the excitement and support.
With two consecutive winning seasons and two post season appearances, the fans are back – over 2.4 million strong is 2014 – the largest regular season total in franchise history.
In addition to his interesting and up-beat talk, Hurdle also fielded questions from the gathering.
This year’s Chuck Tanner MLB Manager of the Year is Buck Showalter of Baltimore. The Tanner committee was recently informed that he would be attending this weekend’s event. Former baseball great Dick Groat will also be among those being honored. Tickets are still available and can be purchased for $180.
